At your first visit, we take a thorough health history, create a plan for your pregnancy, and talk through your individual needs and preferences. Prenatal visits follow a standard schedule, with monthly visits until 28 weeks, every other week until 36 weeks, and weekly thereafter. Education is an important part of Birth Wellness, and each mother receives Your Birth Journey, a comprehensive guide designed for families planning an out-of-hospital birth. Throughout your care, we cover topics such as nutrition, exercise, labs and ultrasounds, breastfeeding, newborn care, as well as homebirth supplies, stages of labor, when to call the midwife, and postpartum recovery. We also talk through what to expect across a range of situations, including if complications arise or a hospital transfer becomes the best option. We discuss common newborn procedures such as vitamin K, erythromycin eye ointment, supporting you in making informed decisions.
