Our Services

Prenatal Care & Education

At your first visit, we take a thorough health history, create a plan for your pregnancy, and talk through your individual needs and preferences. Prenatal visits follow a standard schedule, with monthly visits until 28 weeks, every other week until 36 weeks, and weekly thereafter. Education is an important part of Birth Wellness, and each mother receives Your Birth Journey, a comprehensive guide designed for families planning an out-of-hospital birth. Throughout your care, we cover topics such as nutrition, exercise, labs and ultrasounds, breastfeeding, newborn care, as well as homebirth supplies, stages of labor, when to call the midwife, and postpartum recovery. We also talk through what to expect across a range of situations, including if complications arise or a hospital transfer becomes the best option. We discuss common newborn procedures such as vitamin K, erythromycin eye ointment, supporting you in making informed decisions.

Group Prenatal Care

After your initial private visit, you will attend regularly scheduled group prenatal sessions with parents due in the same month for group discussion and education. This group setting fosters community and enriches the learning experience. Research shows that families participating in group prenatal care experience healthier pregnancies and babies. Partners are encouraged to attend.

At each visit, you will participate in your own care by taking your blood pressure, weight, and pulse. Being involved in your care lets you take an active role and better understand your health. You will complete a short questionnaire about nutrition, supplements, emotional well-being, activity, and any concerns you may have. You will always be seen privately before joining the group, allowing time to discuss personal matters and assess your baby’s growth, heart tones, and position.

While we strongly value the group model, we recognize it may not be the best fit for everyone. Fully private prenatal care is always available when preferred.

Labor & Birth

Throughout labor and birth, we provide gentle reassuring guidance, and careful monitoring while supporting the well-being of both mother and baby. Our care is attentive and responsive, allowing us to recognize normal labor patterns as well as changes that may require additional support.

Parents are encouraged to eat, drink, rest, and change positions throughout labor. Intuitive, mother-led movement is an integral part of physiological childbirth. At times, we may offer helpful suggestions to support labor progress as needed. Position changes and water birth offers many benefits, including relaxation and soothing pain management. The buoyancy of water reduces body weight and joint pressure, which allows greater freedom of movement and comfort.

Newborn & Postpartum Care

After birth, we continue to support both mother and baby while honoring uninterrupted bonding and family time. We gently monitor recovery and the baby’s transition in the first hours, with the newborn exam done right beside the mother once baby has snuggled and nursed. Families are typically released from care about four hours after birth following routine postpartum and newborn assessments, with clear guidance on what to expect and when to reach out. Care continues through six weeks with both home and office visits, along with ongoing breastfeeding support.

We also provide all state-mandated newborn services, including metabolic screening, CCHD screening, hearing screening, and assistance with filing the birth certificate and Social Security Card.
